MEALS AND NUTRITION
We encourage parents to pack a healthy and nutritious lunches and snacks. We encourage parents to pack lunch options from the five food groups:
Vegetables
Fruit (at least two serves)
Grain foods - bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, rice and corn
Reduced -fat dairy - milk, cheese, yoghurt
Meat - fish, chicken, legumes, peas, beans & lentils
HEALTHY LUNCH IDEAS
*Some Healthy lunch ideas for incorporating these 5 food groups:
a sandwich with wholegrain bread and a filling such as salad, cheese, lean meat or falafel
different breads for extra interest – rye breads, baguettes, seeded rolls, pita bread pockets, flat bread, foccacia, rice cakes or corn thins or turkish bread
dips such as hummus, tzatziki or beetroot, along with pita or crackers and vegetable sticks for dipping
potato salad, chickpea salad, quinoa salad, quiches, Greek salad or tabbouleh
leftover pizza or rice and noodle dishes
yoghurt and fruit or muesli, kept cool in an insulated lunch box or frozen overnight.
