MEALS AND NUTRITION

We encourage parents to pack a healthy and nutritious lunches and snacks. We encourage parents to pack lunch options from the five food groups:

  • Vegetables

  • Fruit (at least two serves)

  • Grain foods - bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, rice and corn

  • Reduced -fat dairy - milk, cheese, yoghurt

  • Meat - fish, chicken, legumes, peas, beans & lentils

 

HEALTHY LUNCH IDEAS

*Some Healthy lunch ideas for incorporating these 5 food groups:

  • a sandwich with wholegrain bread and a filling such as salad, cheese, lean meat or falafel

  • different breads for extra interest – rye breads, baguettes, seeded rolls, pita bread pockets, flat bread, foccacia, rice cakes or corn thins or turkish bread

  • dips such as hummus, tzatziki or beetroot, along with pita or crackers and vegetable sticks for dipping 

  • potato salad, chickpea salad, quinoa salad, quiches, Greek salad or tabbouleh 

  • leftover pizza or rice and noodle dishes  

  • yoghurt and fruit or muesli, kept cool in an insulated lunch box or frozen overnight.
